Vol. III

Holy Water

Water turned to blood, then back again,
A warning of the price that must be paid.
Water turned to wine, renamed as blood,
Sacramental memory displayed.
Dripping flow of blood from Savior slain,
Echoed rhythms of the words He prayed,
While water from His wounded side bestowed
New life upon the world like scarlet rain.

First, the river Nile turned to blood,
A drop for every act of sin and shame.
Next, producing wine to follow food
Christ’s transforming power was displayed.
Then He blessed the wine and called it His
Blood, and bread His flesh: His death proclaimed.
Last, he shed His blood that we may bathe
Our souls in living water, born again,
No more to thirst:
Quenched beneath the flood of holy rain.
